Because of the change of Dutch regulations and finances in the Health care sector, people are stimulated to search for new solutions to stay within their homes during their whole life when possible. Together with the family we developed the Kangaroo concept 2.1. The common kangaroo concept exist of a combination of two joined houses, one for the elderly parents (the mother house) and one for the children (the pouch house). The child lives next to its parents which makes it much more easy for them to help their parents with first aid, body care, shopping, cooking and housekeeping’s. In this case the new house is added and connected within the garden next to the family’s existing organ maker shop. The idea for the house is to retain and rebuilt the workshop in a way that within the near future this part can easily be changed into a (second) house. The layout for the new house is completely designed from a healthcare point of view. Besides changing the workshop into a second house we also took in account that within the wide future the whole ensemble can also be used by one new big family. Creating both long-term sustainability as an momentary adapted dwelling as well, which levels the kangaroo concept up to 2.1.
