The Treurniet family has a great passion for AFRICA concentrated at Ethiopia, an amazing beautiful country in Eastern Africa. Ethiopia is a rich cultured country with brilliant landscapes and fascinated people. Our main focus is at the capital city Addis Ababa, the seat of the African Union. The main character of the projects is public sometimes mixed up with semi-public and even private spaces. Outside the city we are focusing on ecological tourism creating a sustainable environment with education and employment for its inhabitants, creating empathic ARCHICULTURE.
In September 2012, I made this sketch for the New Ethiopian Parliament Building. After winning this competition in January this year I stood at the balcony of the office of my colleague architect looking at the Meskel Square. Between the billboards for the memory of the late prime minister Meles Zenawi there was another one carrying the text: "I am African". It reminds me of a very interesting campaign for Nikon in which the camera show us a personal dream, like: I am Don Juan, I am Neil Armstrong, I am Snow White, I am the beauty of life. And I told my African colleague that's where we will meet. Sharing and realizing our dreams: I am part of the world!
